Birnbeck Island

Urban Splash shortlisted our proposals for the redevelopment of historic Birnbeck Island and its grade II* listed pier with associated buildings in Weston-super-Mare in an international design competition. Our entry proposed an inhabited 'pier' on the south of the island for entrepreneurs and innovators that involved a series of energy-efficient dwellings hovering above the high tide mark. A series of terraced parkland structures were positioned on the shoreline that connected the existing town with the new quarter and island.
